Lisa Anderson currently serves as President of the American University in Cairo. Before her appointment to the top office of AUC in 2010, she was the provost of the university. Dr. Anderson came to AUC from Columbia University where she served as the sixth dean to lead the School of International and Public Affairs, established in 1946, Chair of the Political Science Department as well as Director of the Middle East Institute. An eminent scholar of the Middle East and North Africa, Lisa Anderson specializes in state formation and regime change, on which she has published numerous articles and several books including Pursuing Truth, Exercising Power (Columbia UP, 2003). She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the boards of the Social Science Research Council, the Carnegie Council on Ethics and International Affairs, and Human Rights Watch.
